Use Google Docs for File Sharing & Collaboration
Do you work with other people on documents, spreadsheets or presentations with others? How many times have you had to save new versions of the same file? How often do you wonder if you're working from the newest draft?
Google has created Google Docs, which allows users to upload popular file formats, (including DOC, XLS, ODT, ODS, RTF, CSV, and PPT) or to create files from scratch for sharing and updating. Documents are stored securely online, allowing users to access files from anywhere. File owners decide who receives access to view or collaborate on the file. Collaborators see real-time updates, and a chat window inside the open document allows for online team members to communicate quickly and easily. An added bonus: you don't need a Gmail account to use this free service.
Documents can also be downloaded back into their original file format or printed directly from Google Docs.
Google Forms, part of Google Docs, allows for the user to easily create a survey or questionaire using one of their many templates. The survey link can be embedded in an html email or sent as a link. Once the recipient completes the survey, the software automatically populates a spreadsheet that can then be downloaded and shared with others. This is a great tool to create member surveys or conference evaluations. The best part? It's free!
Event In Site has used Google Docs to collaborate with clients on sponsor spreadsheets, speeches, conference programs, event evaluations and mailing lists. I also use Google Docs to update my Christmas card list throughout the year. Try Google Docs for your next block party, family reunion planning, non-profit fundraiser, etc. The possibilities for easy collaboration and instant access are endless.
